Sub panel work we do
Detached buildings are common around New Mexico, and each one needs its own properly grounded sub panel with a disconnect. We size the feeder for voltage drop on long runs, trench and install conduit where needed, and separate the neutrals and grounds the way the code requires.
- Sub panels for garages and workshops
- Power for casitas, guest houses, and additions
- Barn, well house, and outbuilding panels
- Underground and overhead feeders
- Load calculation to confirm the main can support it
- Grounding electrodes for detached structures
- Clear circuit labeling
- Permit and inspection
A sub panel makes sense when
- Your main panel has no open spaces
- You are adding a shop with welders, compressors, or a kiln
- You are building an addition or converting a garage
- A detached building needs more than one circuit
- You want an EV charger far from the main panel

Sub Panel Installation FAQs
Sub panel or full panel upgrade: which do I need in New Mexico?
If the main service has enough capacity and you only need more spaces or power in a new location, a sub panel is usually enough. If the service itself is too small, you need a panel upgrade. We run the numbers and tell you which.
How big should a sub panel be?
A garage or small shop commonly uses 60 to 100 amps. A casita with its own cooking and cooling may need more. We size it to what you plan to run.
Can you run power to a detached building?
Yes. We trench, lay conduit, pull the feeder, and install the panel and grounding at the building.
